Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT), Maurice Korah, says there are inadequate learning materials for students to learn in various schools hence forcing some of them into examination malpractices.

Mr. Korah’s comment follows the announcement by the West African Examination Council that 48,855 (14.12%) candidates results have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of examination malpractices detected during and after the conduct of the 2019 examination.

Mr. Korah’s who spoke on A1 Radio, explained that various basic and senior high schools in the region have inadequate learning materials for students to learn, especially the core subjects.

“Candidates in their quest to pass and as the learning materials are not there, they have no choice than to commit such offence. Many basic and senior high schools have little textbooks for students to learn especially the core subjects.” He explained.

He also added that parents and teachers have to teach their children/students the art of morality as that will go a long way to help them in their daily dealings.

“… the guidance and counselling unit in various schools ought to be up and doing so that students can learn the ways of being sincere in their daily dealings.” He added.

Meanwhile the Bolgatanga Municipal Chairman of the GNAT, Charles Ateem, however encouraged students to be focused on their education, especially at the time of their examinations as that will help them achieved their quest for passing.

“…students play a lot during examination time, which will automatically cause them to fail or commit themselves into examination malpractice. They should always take their exams period seriously and stop playing around as that will help them in their quest.” He encouraged.
