The Upper East Regional Director of Education, Augustine Ayirizang has called on parents to take their wards’ education seriously since education has become key in human and communal development.

He wants parents to contribute in any small way to help address current educational challenges.

Mr. Ayirezang was speaking on A1 Radio on Thursday during a public lecture held on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

A1 Radio as part of its 10th anniversary celebration and mandate to educate and inform the public, held a public lecture on the topic “Contemporary reforms in the educational sector; which way forward?”

Mr. Ayirizang explained that many parents in the region still do not see the importance of educating their children, as they often see education as a waste of their resources.

“… most often than not, some parents’ lifestyle don’t help their children in education, as they rather spend much on their relatives’ funeral to the detriment of their wards education.” He added.

He noted that per the current educational challenges, parents can equally contribute to help various institutions in the region to beef up the standard they want from the government and their children.

“If parents can contribute in solving current educational challenges it will help, not the government but to their children. Parents have equal roles to play as government, because education is key to our current development. Therefore, parents should contribute the little they can to help their wards learning and understanding.” He explained.
