Upper East Regional Executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)have descended heavily on Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Hon. Isaac Adongo.
They are calling for the head of the MP for what they described as a failure on his part to endorse the loan agreement on the Pwalugu multipurpose dam.
It will be recalled that President Nana Akufo Addo in November 2019 cut sod for the construction of Pwalugu multipurpose dam in the Talensi District of Upper East Region.
The project has been pegged at Ghs993 million at the cost of the government of Ghana and to be executed by Chinese construction magnate ,China -Power through a subsidiary company Sinohydro.
A loan agreement has therefore been laid before Parliament by government to be debated for approval but the minority side has declined to take part in the deliberations on grounds that the cost of the dam was padded and inflated.
The move by the Minority has succeeded in putting the debate onhold by the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye.
But in a press conference organised by the Upper East Regional Executives of NPP in Bolgatanga and addressed by Chairman Anthony Namoo, the MP for Bolgatanga Central constituency Isaac Adongo has been accused of acting in bad ‘fate’ on the project.
Mr. Anamoo said ,the refusal of the NDC MP who is part of the Finance committee in Parliament to endorse the loan agreement shows the grand scheme by opposition MPs from the upper East Region to prevent the project from been executed.
According to the NPP, the behaviour of the NDC MPs in Parliament exposed their hidden agenda to score political points if the project fails.
“Members of the minority on the Finance Committee in parliament including Hon. Isaac Adongo, (the Tindongsobligo Adam Smith) MP for Bolgatanga Central refused to attend the Committee meeting to deliberate on the PMDIP which has far reaching positive effects on the lives of our people. What a gross dereliction of duty? Where were Hon. Adongo and his colleagues on the minority side in the Committee? If the minority members would not attend the Finance Committee meeting Hon. Adongo should have attended given the significance of the PMDIP to the regions herein” they stated
They are therefore calling on electorates in the Bolgatanga Constituency to vote against Hon Isaac Adongo in the upcoming elections.
“We would at this juncture call upon the electorates in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency to vote against Hon. Adongo as his interest is antithetical to the wishes and aspirations of the constituents. Hon. Adongo should as a matter of principle be declared personae non grata in the constituency. The personality who will advance the interest of the Constituents is Rex S.A. Asanga and we respectfully invite the good people of the constituency to vote massively for him come the 7th of December, 2020” they said.
The Pwalungu Multipurpose Dam which has been on the drawing board for construction since the early 1970’s when constructed is expected to boost agricultural activities and augment electricity supply to Northern part of Ghana and neighboring countries. It is also expected to help reduce casualties from flooding resulting from the annual spillage of Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.
