The Paramount Chief of Talensi Traditional Area and Member of Council Elders of State,Naab Kubilsung Nablebtang has appealed to government to quicken processes in constructing an airstrip for the Upper East Region.

According to him, the construction of an airstrip will not only ensure a safer and shorter means of transportation,it will also improve on the local economy of the region since it shares borders with two neighboring countries, Togo and Burkina Faso.

Naab Kubilsung Nablebtang who was speaking at a durbar marking the 2020 Timaalug Laog program in Tongo observed by the Chiefs and people of Talensi said it was worrying that Upper East Region despite the economic prospects has does not have an airstrip for commercial transportation.

He however suggested that the bottlenecks surrounding the location of the project should be ironed it to give way for the construction to begin.

“I will also use this opportunity to call on the government to speed up the construction of the Bolgatanga Airport. Throughout the country, airports are located at the regional capitals. It is therefore not appropriate for the project to be relocated to a different town in the region when it is possible to iron out the bottle necks and continue with the project at its original site at Sumbrungu where significant work had already started” he said.

Meanwhile, the revered Paramount Chief while expressing gratitude to government for some level of improvement of education in his area, also used the opportunity to appeal to government to prioritize the conversion of Bolgatanga Polytechnic into a Technical University which has the capacity to absorb huge numbers of Free SHS products.

“I will once again thank the government for absorbing the Tongo Community Senior High School at Baare into the government managed schools. I wish to appeal to the government to continue to help the school with the needed infrastructure and equipment in order to improve upon teaching and learning in the school. We also wish to appeal to the various private companies in the traditional area and beyond to extend a helping hand to the school”

“With regards to development of education in the Upper East Region, I will passionately appeal the government to finalize the conversion of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic into a Technical University. This will go a long way to help in absorbing the large number of beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy in the coming years. I will, at this stage, call on parents to take special interest in the education of their children. It is sad to learn of how poorly our school are performing lately in the BECE” He appealed.
