Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) are threatening government with a nationwide strike to demand full implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on interim premium for its members.
The interim premium is an allowance that is supposed to be paid by government to cushion them financially. Ghana government signed an MoU between CLOGSAG in 2016 to give a 15 per cent interim premium to its members with effect from January 1, 2017.
However, the payments have delayed without any positive signal from government to implement the MoU agreed with CLOGSAG therefore triggering the action from the Association.
Addressing a press conference in Bolgatanga, Thursday, Upper East Regional Secretary of CLOGSAG, Martina Ami Awuni declared support for the National Executives Council of the Association to declare a nationwide strike in March against government for showing bad fate towards their demands.
Madam Awuni on behalf of her colleagues reiterated demands by the National Executive Council (NEC) that the 15 percent market premium agreed in the MoU be implemented fully.
She added that the “failure to fully implement the MoU by 3rd March, 2020, GLOGSAG will embark on a nationwide strike action to demand full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding”.
She also noted that the National Labor Commission has therefore been notified about the pending actions against government and must act accordingly.
CLOGASAG has therefore called on members to wear red bands and fly red flags at vantage points to drum home their concerns.
