Ghana Health Service blames Media to cover it’s inefficiency in fight against Covid-19

The Ghana Health Service(GHS)is hiding under accusations of the media of interference to cover it’s inefficiency in the Upper East.

The Media has been accused of causing fear and panic in the region on radio discussions and reports on Coronavirus since the region recorded it’s first positive case.

This follows concerns raised about the scanty information management and communication from the health directorate about Covid-19 in the region.

The Media has not been engaged on the situational management in the region and only get to know about it when it is published on the national website of Ghana Health Service.

Even to get health professionals to share public consumable information has been a hurdle for the media thereby creating lack of coordination between the Ghana Health Services and the Media.

But in an updated situational report on the recorded cases of Covid-19 in the Upper East Region sighted by A1 News, the Ghana Health Service captured as part of it’s challenges that “Rumours on case numbers by some media houses creating fear and panic hampering contact tracing.

It also lamented a high stigmatization of contacts and suspected cases while acknowledging an improved supply of PPEs from National but more are required.


Meanwhile, there has been an increased turn-around time at KCCR for laboratory results due to increased sample load from various regions.

Upper East Region has recorded 10 additional Covid-19 cases through routine surveillance and contact tracing. The total number of confirmed currently stands at 18 with 1 death out of 508 samples collected.
