Principal at the Saint. John Bosco College of Education in Navrongo of the Upper East Region,William Anamoo Atindana has cautioned trainees of the school and other colleges to as a matter of urgency get along with their colleagues on the various E-Learning platforms as there is no guarantee of lecturers going back from where they have started.
According to him, activities of the college begun as on April 27 and they expect students (trainees) to join the various E-Learning platform which was created and managed by their affiliate, University of Education Winneba.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, school activities have been stopped by the Education Ministry together with the Ghana Education Service as part of measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
In that vein, the Ministry for Education has encouraged various institutions in the country to launch special online studies platforms for their students.
The platforms will give students the opportunity to get in touch with their lecturers and as well as get access to video lessons and lesson notes, and at the end have online Tests after every lesson.
Knowing the internet challenges that some students from deprived communities might face, Mr. Atindana explained that the development of the platform from their mother institute came with a piece of strong advice that students should use only two telecommunications networks which are MTN and Vodafone as the government will provide them with free internet access.
“It is left onto them, the students to follow directives because we sent messages across that they should use MTN and Vodafone as the government will provide them with free internet access. So, if you are a student and you still complain of not having access, then, you are doing yourself great disservices because there is no guarantee of a lecturer revisiting what has taught when the COVID-19 Pandemic is over”.
Mr. Atindana, who spoke on Reporters Visit on A1 Radio with Williams Jalulah, however, called on prospective applicants to apply as application forms for admission for 2020/2021 academic year is out.
Meanwhile the National Public Relations Manager for Trainee Teachers Association, Atagabe A Blastus appealed to relevant authorities under the Educational Fraternity to put in measures that will not let trainees suffer.
He added that “Already there are complaints coming from students from deprived areas that they do not have internet connectivity and as well as devices that can get them hooked to the E-Learning Platform”.
