The Deputy Ranking Member of the Health Committee of Parliament, Kuganab-Lem Robert Baba has described the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central, as unfit for the position he occupies.

According to him, the Health Minister has displayed gross incompetence in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana and must be removed from office by President Akufo-Addo.

“In this time of worries, you are there advising the president to build 88 hospitals and 6 regional hospitals, what a level of incompetence exercise there. For the president to gain his trust from the citizens should honorable ask this man to resign”.

Dr. Kuganab-Lem who spoke on DayBreak Upper East on A1 Radio with Samuel Mbura said the Health Minister’s proposal for the government to build 88 district hospitals and 6 new regional hospitals was a misplaced priority.

“The various hospitals at the regional levels do not even have proper PPEs for front-line workers not to talk of isolated centers, and here we are, someone is telling the President to focus on building hospitals for political gains and not for the needs of the people who gave them the mandate”.

The Binduri MP said the display of gross incompetency by the Health Minister to put up infrastructure instead of putting pragmatic measures in place to eradicate the deadly Covid-19 is uncalled for and should be shown the exit door.

“Look at the efforts that well-meaning Ghanaians are doing to help curb the spread of the disease. People and corporate institutions are donating the little they can with the hope that this disease can come to an end. But leaders who should have leading more in that directing are rather indifferent; talking about how hospitals should be built. This, to me, is not fit for the position and should be shown the exits”.

In response, the Upper East Regional Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sanusi Issah said the call by the Binduri MP is unfortunate and must not be taken seriously “You should rather be shown the exits door because you lack the basic principles of health and its related activities”.
