Gloria Asusiba is a second year Junior High School Pupil at Winkongo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
She is 17 years old and dropped out of school due to a pregnancy. Gloria is reported to have been impregnated by an SHS leaver who left for his hometown in Tamale after completion in 2019.
Gloria followed up to stay with the boyfriend and abandoned school after realizing she was pregnant. She had her Antenatal care till birth in Tamale .
But upon delivery through Caesarean , she suffered series of complications from partial blindness to Hypertension, Anaemia ,Optic Neuritis.
She was admitted at Tamale Teaching Hospital and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi . However , financial constraints forced her boyfriend to abandon her .
Therefore,her family had to transport her back to the village in Winkongo where she has been bedridden for the past six months and as a result , she has developed acute bed sores. The family has no money to take her to hospital.
Her six months old baby girl has been under “wet nursing ‘’ by the grandmother.
This story came to bare when health workers at Winkongo Health Center on their normal visits to communities were told about the situation.
They immediately drew attention of their authorities in the Talensi District who have moved in swiftly to attend to the predicament of Gloria however, they say the condition demands and involves huge sums of money for her to be able to recover.
She has therefore been taken to the Tongo Hospital for Management while waiting for public support to refer the patient to a higher Hospital for treatment.
A visit by A1 Radio’s Samuel Mbura to the family house of the helpless teenager at Winkongo-Daporin saw her lying on her belly with sores spread on her hips and buttocks. Gloria struggled with pain in responding to questions on her predicament.
Philanthropists and individuals need to urgently intervene to save the life of this teenager to possibly restore her health and get her back to school.
Meanwhile,the estimated amount involved is not yet known.
