Confirmed information available to A1 News indicates that the contractor working on the Bongo-Balungu bridge in the Upper East Region is expected to return to site after some payments have been made by government.

The Balungu bridge is on the international trunk road linking Bongo to Burkina Faso to the north.

This bridge has caused several economic losses to the Bongo District for the past years and finally collapsed during the raining season in 2016.

It truncated commercial, educational and health activities because of inaccessibility in the rainy season. Residents have demonstrated on several occasions for the road to be fixed to no avail.

The contract was then awarded to Damit Company Limited to the tune of over Ghs14 million to address the challenges in 2018 which construction work started.

The bridge has been constructed with culverts on the road which is about 10 kilometers but halted along the line due to non payment of funds.

This ignited concerns of a possible cutting off adjoining communities since the rains have just set in.

But confirmed information have it that the contraction firm ,Damit Company Limited has been paid an amount of Ghs1.9million and works are expected to resume earnest.

This follows assurances from Upper East Regional Minister,Tangoba Abayage and Authorities at the Bongo District Assembly headed by DCE, Peter Ayinbisa on different platforms that plan s were far ahead for the contractor to resume work hence, residents should remain calm and optimistic about the completion of the project.

Steps were therefore taken to get the contractor paid.
