The Poultry Traders Association in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, say, they will no longer honor their tax obligations to the Assembly due to its failure to provide structures for convenience in the market.

The stinky nature of human excreta in the market sector, according to them poses a lot of health hazards to their lives and that of their customers.

Speaking to A1 News, Secretary of the Association, Adongo Daniel, threatened that, if the situation continues they will have no choice than to stop honoring their tax obligation to the Assembly.

He explained that, the unfortunate situation usually forces their customers to wonder in shame in search of a place for convenience.

“Visitors to the place here usually look for a place to have their convenience but there is none here. And you can imagine how uneasy it is when one wants to free oneself.

We are saying that if this continues, it will force us to stop honoring our tax because the assembly on daily basics collects tax from us yet refusing to provide us with a wooden structure that will be conducive enough for our customers.

Place of convenience for traders’

Another trader, Azure Thomas, said, “Just look at these large numbers of people that come to the market every day and it is only on this corner they come to urine. Imagine what will happen? Various forms of diseases will definitely affect us all.”

“It is a slap on the face when our colleague’s traders come from other regions to buy birds and found out that this is how the poultry market is in the Municipality. It is a shame to us as traders and relevant authorities who supposed to help us in this cause”, Akolgo Razak added.

Meanwhile, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure , has told A1 News that, the  assembly was aware of the traders predicament, but could not do much to help them.
