Headmaster of the Zebilla Senior High Technical School, Mr. Richard Ayabilla, says, calm has return to the school following Saturday’s riots and vandalization of school properties by students.

Third year students of the school on Saturday, July 25, vandalized school properties after school authorities confiscated some mobile phones belonging to some students who were engaged in illegal connections for charging their mobile phones in the ceilings of their dormitories.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East, Mr. Ayabilla, said, though the extent of damage caused is yet to be determined, an emergency management meeting will be held soon to look into the matter.

“They just jumped into my house which is close to the school’s administration and vandalized two school vehicles, myself and my wife’s private cars were also vandalized.

Other properties that were also vandalized include; louvre blades of the school’s dining hall, some pieces of furniture, hand washing facilities and motor bikes belonging to some teachers”.

Mr. Ayabilla, further reiterated that, calm has return to the school but eight(8) students have been arrested by the Zebilla police district command for allegedly rioting and causing unlawful damage to school properties.

But everything has come back to normal and they are writing their exams, so, my situational report will get to the regional director of education. I will also inform the board of the school we will have to get an emergency board meeting to look at the way forward”.

Mr. Ayabilla, indicated that, the suspects will be arraigned before the Bawku circuit high today.
