The Presbyterian Church of Ghana- Upper Presbytery, has inaugurated a nine member team as Peace Ambassadors who will support to enhance preaching of peace across the 3 northern regions; before, during and after this year’s general elections.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Peniel Congregation of the church at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

In his inaugural address, the Upper Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. James Kwame Awuni, said it was prudent to get ambassadors of peace at this point in time,   as vessels of peace preaching to prevent any instability ahead of the December 7 elections.

He admonished members of the Presbyterian Church as well as politicians to avoid making pronouncements that could generate conflict as they go about their daily campaign activities.

Rev. Awuni on behalf of the Peace Ambassadors appealed to state agencies especially the Electoral Commission to be neutral in discharging their mandate.

“What we are appealing to all the state agencies, is to be neutral especially the Electoral Commission; because they are standing as referee for the election.”

According to him, the Commission’s failure to remain neutral could “create a whole lot of problem for us”

“Politicians should be very careful; the judiciary should also be careful the way they come out to do certain things; they should be neutral. I know during and after the elections, we will have issues going to court. The security personnel should also be neutral.” He added.

Rev. Awuni underscored the need to sensitize the youth to be mindful of politicians who would want to use them for their political gains.

He again admonished the youth to engage in acquiring skilled training to enable them secure job opportunities to improve their livelihood and that of their families in future.
