3 Parliamentary Candidates in the Upper East Region are among 15 others who have been sacked from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for obtaining nomination from the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the upcoming parliamentary election as Independent Candidates.

The 3 affected persons in the Upper East Region include a former Minister and MP for Garu Constituency, Dominic Azimbe Azumah, Auegabey S. Gibson Achavuusum, Builsa North; and Akunye Simon, Pusiga.

Information available to A1News indicates that the decision was arrived at after several failed attempts by leadership of the party to get the aggrieved candidates to rescind their decision in order not to create divisions within the party.

A statement signed by General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said “The National Democratic Congress wishes to bring to the attention of all party members, sympathizers and the General Public that the following members who sought for and obtained nomination from the Electoral Commission to contest the upcoming parliamentary election as INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES have forfeited their membership of the party.”

It added that all members of the party who endorsed the nomination forms of the candidates in question, as well as those who openly declared their support by way of campaigning for the affected persons have also forfeited their membership of the party.

The statement further asked them to handover all party property in their possession to their respective constituency secretariats.

“They must cease forthwith in using party paraphernalia and the name of the flagbearer {John Dramani Mahama} in all their campaigns.” It added.

This move by the NDC follows a similar one by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had earlier sacked some of its members over their decision to contest as independent candidates.
