The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in the Upper East Region is challenging itself to register 179,000 more active membership by the end of November 2020.

This was disclosed by the Upper East Regional Operations Manager of NHIA, Kasimu Abudulai, in an interview on A1 Radio.

According to him, the stated figure is the region’s share of a national target of 4 million; a campaign which is part of activities to celebrate the National Health Insurance (NHIS) Week.

The set target he said has been duly apportioned to the 9 operational districts in the region; and District Management Teams have been urged to step up their efforts in registering as many Ghanaians as possible to meet the target by end of November this year.

Mr. Kasimu announced that the NHIS Week, starting Monday, November 9, with an official launch in Accra by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is under the theme “NHIS; Leaving no one behind.”

Touching on activities that have been lined-up for the week celebration, He noted that the Authority will on Tuesday have floats across the country with Upper East region holding theirs concurrently at 3 designated zonal centres.

After the float on Tuesday morning, Mr. Kasimu said they will embark on what he termed as special registration.

“We shall identify communities where we can have network, fix our systems there and run registrations for people to have easy access. We have been doing so but we are going to intensify that. We shall start on Tuesday till Saturday.” He explained.

Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of NHIA, Rufina Ankwain, invited the general public to join the Authority in observing its week celebration; adding that the essence of the week celebration is to increase awareness on programs and policies of NHIS especially on the Mobile Renewal System.

Responding to complaints of NHIS subscribers who have reportedly been asked to pay for accessing healthcare at NHIS Accredited Service Providers, Madam Rufina entreated the aggrieved subscribers to insist on payment receipts from the facilities in question; and subsequently present same to the Municipal or Regional office of the NHIA for the matter to be look into.
