The Association of Educational Accountants Ghana (AEA) has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to challenge its members with promotional benefits to motivate them.

The association wants its members who are Chartered Accountants to be promoted to the position of Payroll Auditors at various Educational Institutions.

Speaking at the 2019-2020 National Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, the Acting National Chairman of the Association, Ambrose Yao Kwadzodza, noted that management of GES needed to put measures in place to allow for mandatory, regular training for accountants to ensure that they effectively continue to manage the resources of the Service.

According to Mr. Kwadzodza, “The association will present a paper on an anomaly to TEWU of TUC Ghana concerning the promotion of Principal Accountants to the rank of Deputy Chief Accountants without a responsibility allowance.”

He further noted that the association was in talks with TEWU of TUC to see how GES could occasionally pay for the cost of its member who may want to pursue professional academic courses.

Touching on the need to practice within the professional ethics, Mr. Kwadzodza urged members of the association especially the young ones to see their academic advancement as a stepping stone to achieving the professional heights.

The 2019-2020 National Conference and annual general meeting were on the theme “Strengthening Controls in Public Financial Management in Ghana Education Service, the role of the Accountant.”
