Link Community Development, a non-profit organization focused on improving teaching and learning in rural areas, has graduated 243 out-of-school girls who have undergone vocational empowerment training including numeracy and literacy training in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.

The training seeks to give selected vulnerable girls between the ages of 15 and 19 a second chance to achieve their educational dreams.

It could be recalled that the organization last year implemented the Strategic Approach to Girls’ Education (STAGE) project in the Upper East Region that focused at empowering 2,875 marginalized girls in rural areas.

The project selected 250 less endowed girls from deprived communities to train and empower them, but out of the number, 243 of them were able to complete the training successfully in the Nabdam District.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held in Nabdam, the Project Coordinator, Faara Joachim noted that the project lasted for six to seven months where the venerable girls underwent several stages of training.

“These girls were once school dropouts and were roaming at their respective communities without good jobs to do. But STAGE project implemented by Link Community Development was able to identify them, took them through vocational empowerment training including numeracy and literacy training and now they are their masters of change in their communities.”

The Project Coordinator indicated that the graduands were the first batch under the STAGE project since its implementation; and have been awarded certificates from the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).

Mr. Faara, entreated the graduands to be serious and put the skills they have acquired into profitable use to bring about the positive outcomes in the society.

He assured them of his outfit’s commitment to continue to empower them to make meaningful lives for themselves.

Some of the graduates who spoke to A1 News expressed their excitement and thanked the organization for the support; adding that they will use the skills learned to empower others in their respective communities.

Sampana Gifty, a beneficiary said she will use the skills acquired and certificate attained from the National vocational training institute to start a small training center in her community.

“What I have learned, I want to give back to society by training some of my colleague girls in my community.” She stated.

Another beneficiary, Abanga Mabel, said the training has helped her to have a voice in society and that she will open her shop with the startup capital from the project and its partners.
