Defeated Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Lawra Constituency in the Upper West Region in the 2020 election, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, has drafted a message to his constituents after losing the seat to Bede Ziedeng of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, serving the people of Lawra as Member of Parliament (MP) in the last four years has been an amazing journey; and that he was honored to have had that opportunity.

Part of the message also expressed his congratulations to the MP elect; adding that the contest was over and the time had come to work for the development of the Lawra constituency.

“These past four years has been an amazing journey and I’m honored to have had the opportunity to serve my people and Lawra.”

“Congratulations to Lawyer Bede Ziedeng. The constest is over and its time to move Lawra forward.” He posted on Facebook.

The Lawra seat was one of the 36 parliamentary seats the NDC said it had flipped in their favour.

Mr. Karbo polled 11,158 votes while Lawyer Ziedeng got 14,126.

It is unclear what led to the defeat of the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways who has been described by many as a grassroots man.

But sources from within the NPP community in the constituency link his defeat to a long lasting grudge between him and the party’s Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Donkor.

According to reports, the outgoing MP accused Mr. Donkor of going around polling stations in the constituency with a vehicle belonging to the party, to campaign against his (Mr. Karbo’s) re-election.

This reportedly resulted in the Lawmaker seizing the party’s vehicle by assigning ‘party boys’ to go for it from the chairman.
