The Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, has refuted the claims by a pro-NPP group demanding his resignation from office following the party’s performance in the region in the December 7 polls.
It could be recalled that a group by name ‘Upper East Patriotic Movement for Growth’ shortly after this year’s election demanded the resignation of Lawyer Anamoo from his position because according to it, he bragged he would resigned as regional chairman if NPP failed to win his home constituency (Nabdam) seat in the December 7 polls; and it turned out the party lost the seat.
In a press statement, the group demanded the regional chairman to take responsibility for his words and resign from his position with immediate effect.
It further argued that the inefficient leadership of Lawyer Anamoo contributed largely to what it said was the poor performance of NPP in the region in this year’s general elections which led to the party losing all 3 parliamentary seats it occupied.
But speaking on Zina Yela Program on A1 Radio, Lawyer Namoo dismissed the claims of the group.
He said “I did not for once, opened my mouth to say I will resign if the Nabdam Parliamentary Seat was not won in this year’s election. This year’s election was shocking to everyone; even I will say that the region was lucky to have won one parliamentary seat which was the Binduri constituency. So if one looks at the development of this year’s elections, one will say that it surprises everyone and not only the Upper East Region.”
Lawyer Namoo noted that since 1994 he has been working tirelessly to see the progress of the party and will therefore not pay attention to comments made by people he said, do not know the start of the party.
He continued that “I have worked with various constituencies to ensure that the party comes to power. I and my entire executives have worked to the expectation of the party and every electorate in the region knows that. So, it will be surprising if such comments are coming from those individuals.”
“I have made numerous plans and campaigns to the extent that made the party achieved what it has never achieved. We made a mark and I must set it on record that at my own constituency, I made efforts to the extent that I supported and sponsored all executives at the Nabdam constituency with my own money for the campaign. Even as I’m speaking, I’m waiting to receive receipts of that from.”
The Regional Chairman stressed that the calls by the group asking for his resignation were born out of greed and selfish interests.
According to him the group was not known to the party and therefore did not have the moral grounds to ask for his resignation or that of other NPP regional executives.
Lawyer Namoo, however called for unity in the party; urging supporters to disregard claims of groups purporting to be supporters of NPP yet have their own motives.
