The Functional Executive Board of the Upper East Development Association (UDA) has sent a congratulatory message to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his inauguration as president to serve his second term in office.

According to the group, Ghanaians elected President Akufo-Addo in the last election as a way of showing appreciation for the achievements chalked by his government.

The non-partisan, development-oriented group in the Upper East Region, has further condemned the actions of parliamentarians on the floor of parliament in an attempt to elect a Speaker and called for investigation to “bring to book the dishonorable members who brought the name of an institution like the Parliament of Ghana into disrepute”

UDA is a development centered group in the Upper East region with the aim of harnessing development to the region.

The Functional Executive Board (FEB) of the Upper East Development Association (UDA), wish to convey our deep-seated congratulations to His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo on his inauguration as President elect to serve his second term of office as President of the Republic of Ghana.

The Ghanaian people have once again reposed their trust, confidence and sovereignty of the state into your care not only as an appreciation for the achievements you have chalked in your first term of office but also as a reminder of the many greater things left to be done for the dreams of our forebearers to be realized.

We also want to use this medium to convey in cold prints and to condemn in no uncertain terms the actions of Parliamentarians on the floor of Parliament in the early hours of Thursday 7th January, 2021 in an attempt to elect a Speaker to steer the affairs of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.

Parliamentarians carry the sovereign will of their constituents in trust to act in their interest and must be guided by those ideals. It was shameful to say the least as the state military was called to restore calm among elected law makers due to hours of unresolved chaos and rancor exhibited by unapologetic elected members of Parliament.

We call on the security agencies to fully investigate the uncouth behavior exhibited by elected members of Parliament and bring to book the dishonorable members who brought the name of an institution like the Parliament of Ghana into disrepute.

We in the UDA are confident in our conviction that both sides of this hung Parliament will be guided by weaving their political differences of NDC and NPP into a strong fabric of oneness for the supreme interest of the Ghanaian people in ensuring good governance in directing the business of the state on the path of continued progress and development.

Once again, many congratulations to His Excellency, the President of the Republic, the Rt. Honorable Speaker and all elected members of Parliament. We pray the President to continue with his developmental agenda for the Upper East Region in the areas of education, health, agriculture, roads, and extend the national electricity grid to all communities in the Region

May God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.

Thank you.

Signed:
