Police in the Upper East Region has confirmed the death of a 29-year-old man in Gbane in the Talensi District who reportedly shot himself dead in the head with a locally manufactured pistol after he was refused an alcohol drink.
According to a Daily Graphic report sighted by A1Radioonline.com, the incident occurred when the now-deceased, Jacob Gbamri, also known as Lion, returned home drunk; having gone on a drinking spree in the community.
He attempted taking in more alcohol from a nearby drinking spot said to be owned by his wife, Akua Yinputa Merit, who allegedly refused to serve him (her Husband).
A while later, the sound of a gunshot was heard only to discover that the victim had shot and killed himself after he was denied more alcohol.
Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Regional Police command confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic saying it occurred on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
According to him, the police on Monday, January 4, 2021 received a distress call from the Assembly Member for the Gaare Gbane-Tongo Electoral Area that the deceased had shot himself.
Upon a visit to house of the deceased, ASP Fianko-Okyere said they found the body lying in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds on the right side of his head.
He, however revealed that preliminary investigations showed that the deceased was a high fever patient.
He added that the locally manufactured pistol used to commit the act had been retrieved by the police for evidential purposes.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased is said to have been released to the family for burial.
