Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has responded to claims suggesting she had attempted influencing the relocation of the proposed Bolgatanga Airport from its original site within the Bolgatanga Municipality to Navrongo, where she hails from.

Speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga based Dreamz FM, Madam Abayage said “As a patriotic daughter of Navrongo, I would wish that it goes to Navrongo. It’s natural; Just the same way anybody in BONABOTO would wish it comes to them. There’s nobody in BONABOTO who would wish the airport be sent somewhere else. It’s natural. But I don’t care where it is sited; although I would wish it comes to my hometown.”

She continued that her prayer has been to see the region get its long-awaiting airport and that wherever it will be sited should not be a problem, provided it remains in the region; suggesting the technical committee knows best in determining a suitable location for the proposed airport.

According to her, Upper East has grown to a level where having an airport will enhance the economic growth of the region.

Beginning with the construction of an airstrip around 1991 at Sumburungu-Anateem, the proposed Bolgatanga Airport has been characterized by controversies; with communities divided over the siting of the project.

But Madam Abayage has called on residents of the region to come together as one people and work towards the collective development of the area.

Touching on her achievements as Regional Minister for the past 2 years, Madam Abayage noted that she had lost count of the numerous projects she has able to bring to the region.

“Even if I say I will not mention schools, CHPS compounds, and other mini-projects as my achievements let’s look at the bigger ones; the Tono Irrigation Project in Kassena Nankana,  Bolga-Bawku road, and Pwalagu Multipurpose Dam are all legacies that I will be leaving behind as my contribution to the Region.”

She however called on the people of Upper East as well as paramount chiefs to rally behind the new NPP government to bring more development to the region.
