As part of measures aimed at curbing the situation where unregistered motorbikes are used to commit crimes and go undetected, the Bolgatanga Divisional Police Command in the Upper East Region is set to embark on an operation to impound all sighted unregistered motorbikes in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

In a notice of operation copied to A1 Radio, signed by the Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent D. K Dzansi, the operation is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 25, 2021.

According to the statement, the police command “intends to discourage buying and selling of stolen motorbikes in the Municipality by ensuring that all motorbikes are properly documented and registered.”

Motorists without permanent registration plates risk having their motorbikes impounded by the police; as the statement further warns that “offenders are likely to face prosecution unlike previous situations.”

In view of this, affected persons have been implored to “ensure that their unregistered motorbikes are duly registered before the operation commences.”
