A group by name ‘Coalition of Critical Thinkers of Garu’ is demanding the immediate suspension 2 caterers of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) in the Garu District of the Upper East Region.
It is the case of the group that the 2 caterers namely; Adamu Awinbun and Abu Seidu Kariyamah openly campaigned against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Garu constituency in favour of an Independent candidate in the lead up to the December 7, 2020, general election.
In a petition to the Upper East Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, signed by its Spokesperson, Andrew Atariwini, the group argued that much as GSFP remains a national social intervention, the services of the caterers are engaged because of their affiliation and perhaps their contribution to the governing party.
Therefore, the decision by Madam Awinbun and Madam Kariyamah to switch their loyalty and service to the NPP at a crucial moment as in the 2020 general election in Garu, according to the group, does not present them as worthy recipients of any reward from the party and as such should be suspended from cooking under the programme.

Dear Madam,
PETITION FOR THE SUSPENSION OF ADAMU AWINBUN AND ABU SEIDU KARIYAMAH AS CATERERS OF THE GSFP
I write to your good office to as a matter of urgency and necessity consider this petition to suspend the above-mentioned caterers from cooking in the Nate Primary School and Worikambo Primary respectively.
Pursuant to the directive of your outfit instructing caterers who hitherto were engaged in various schools around the country to continue same for the time being. We welcome same with delight and appreciation, but takes strong and unwavering objection to the names cited above.
The above individuals openly campaigned against the NPP in the Garu constituency in favour of the Independent candidate (Dominic Azumah Azimbe).
Our action is in line with the provision of our party’s constitution; article 3(1) which posits “A member of the Party who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, or for an independent candidate when the Party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party”.
We appreciate the fact that GSFP is a national social intervention and must remain as such. However, per the convention which has guided the operation of the programme since it’s inception, we believe that the persons the in question were awarded those contracts because of their affiliation and perhaps contribution to the party. In view of this, switching their loyalty and service at a crucial moment of the kind witnessed in the 2020 general election in Garu does not present them as worthy recipients of any reward from the party and as such should be suspended from cooking now.
We pray that the needed action will be taken now else we may have to exercise our constitutional right again in activating article 21(d) to insist on our demand.
Counting on your urgent response and action.
Yours in the Service
…Signed….
Andrew Atariwini
Spokes person.
