The Upper East Regional Branch of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has received the government’s first batch of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for onward distribution to basic schools in the region.

The PPEs, according to the supervisory body of GES have come at the right time and will help curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking exclusively to A1 Radio, the Bolgatanga Municipal Public Relations Officer of GES, Mr. Zeckariah Abdul, noted that though the PPEs have come at the right time, they were not enough for onward distribution to all basic schools.

“Government has supplied us with PPEs to be distributed to basic schools but there are not in full complement. Some vehicles arrived yesterday {Monday} and they took some of our PPEs to our Municipal Education Directorate. And today {Tuesday}, headteachers were made to come and pick them to their schools.

So, I can confidently say we have tissue paper, sanitizers, no Veronica buckets. But when the form threes went back to school to write their exams, they were given Veronica buckets and other things; so those Veronica buckets still exist.”

When asked whether the government’s supply included face masks? Mr. Abdul could not say much but was quick to point that tissue paper and hand sanitizers were available for onwards distribution to various schools.

However, information available to A1 News indicates that the PPEs supplied by the government for basic schools came without face masks and washing soap; rather, only tissue papers and hand sanitizers.

Mr. Abdul therefore, called on schools that would not receive the first batch of government’s PPEs to exercise patience as theirs will come soon.
