Copa del Rey: Real Madrid kicked out by 3rd division side

A club that is ranked 4th in the 3rd division, Alcoyano surprisingly knocked out Spanish Giants Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey last night.

Alcoyano managed to beat Madrid 2-1 in Extra Time while being one man down. Madrid took the lead in the first half through goal from defender Eder Militao. The host, Alcoyano, then equalized late in the 2nd half on the 80th minute from substitute Jose Solbes.

The game proceeded in the extra time which saw Alcoyano receiving 2 yellow cards from another substitute Ramon Lopez. Alcoyano’s hero in the game was 41 years old goalkeeper Jose Juan Figueres, who made 10 incredible saves.

The underdogs however managed to score after being reduced to 10 men with the scores still at 1-1. Midfielder Juanan Casanova’s goal on the 115th minute in the extra time was enough to send the host into the second round of the competition.
