Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed surprise and worry over the performance of their opponents, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7, 2020 general elections.

According to him, he harboured in his heart the hope that the ruling party was going to win the election overwhelmingly, until the results proved otherwise.

In the eve of the elections, lots of polls were conducted across the country and these polls pointed to an emphatic victory for the incumbent party – NPP.

However, the results of the 2020 polls were contrary to those polls conducted as the NDC went par with the NPP in the parliamentary race.

And speaking in an interview with A1 radio on Friday, Mr. Boahen said he was surprised and shocked at the performance of the NDC as he expected the NPP as a party to walk over the NDC.

“I’m extremely surprised and alarmed by the militancy, the activeness, the sense of togetherness and brotherliness exhibited by the NDC in the 2020 election. All along I thought we were going to win overwhelmingly. As for NDC we are going to push them aside, as for the NDC it’s going to be a walk over, but when the results came, when the results came in, I said heeer! This is NDC for I’m extremely surprised. They did well. Let us be frank and honest to ourselves in life; they performed creditably well. But for our President and the Vice, it would have been a different story altogether.” Mr. Boahen said.

He went on to urged all hands to be on deck within the rank and file of the party so as to strengthen the party’s fortunes.

“Fortunes of the NPP must be fabric. We must go all out to protect and defend the NPP. We must raise NPP to a certain level. This is a collective effort of anybody. Some of us who are already taken the light in leadership, we must lead them and lead them well. No complacency, no arrogance.” He added.

He therefore urged citizens of Upper East to exercise restrain as their time will come when it comes to ministerial nominations.
