Bolgatanga Municipality: Covid-19 death toll now 9, active cases rise to 64

9 people have so far died from Covid-19 in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region since the 1st of January to the 25th of January, 2021.

This was disclosed in an interview on A1 Radio by the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Director, Edmund Mohammed Nyanwura.

He said 7 out of the 9 dead bodies have been buried while preparations were underway to bury the remaining 2 bodies on Monday.

According to him, the active cases in the municipality have also jumped to 64 with 121 new infections in the stated period.

To curb the spread of the virus in the area, Mr. Nyanwura entreated residents in the municipality to as much as possible avoid social gatherings.

“At this time, it is necessary that we avoid social gatherings. It is necessary that we avoid funerals because we know this is the season many of us would like to do funerals. But as it is now, it is very necessary to avoid that.”

In an earlier interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Nyanwura stated that the Bolgatanga Municipality, which includes the regional capital, continues to be the epicenter of Coronavirus infections in the Upper East Region.

The region’s case load as at January 25, 2021, reportedly stands at 502.
