As part of measures to curtail the continuous spread of Coronavirus in the country, government has announced its plans to have the entire population of Ghana vaccinated against the virus.

President Akufo-Addo in his 23rd update to the nation on measures taken to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, said “Our aim is vaccinate the entire population, with an initial target of twenty million people.”

Stating that the earliest vaccine will be in the country by March this year, the president was hopeful that through bilateral and multilateral means, a total of 17.6 million vaccine doses would have been procured for the Ghanaian people by the end of June.

Amidst mixed reaction from members of the general public on the unknown effects of the Covid-19 vaccine on human life, he assured that only vaccines that have been evaluated and declared as safe-for-use in Ghana will be administered.

“The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) will use its established processes for granting the emergency-use-authorisation for each vaccine in Ghana. As President of the Republic, I assure you that only vaccines that have been evaluated and declared as safe-for-use in Ghana will be administered.”

Meanwhile, the president revealed that “The total number of active cases has more than doubled, from a little over 1,900, two weeks ago, to 5,358 currently.
