Teachers in the Tamale Metropolis in solidarity with their colleagues under the Presbyterian Education Unit have laid down their chalk following an attack on the head teacher of Nyohini Presbyterian Junior High School B.

According to the aggrieved teachers, their action is in disapproval of the physical assault launched on the head teacher by hoodlums from the community last week.

Speaking to Diamond News, headteacher for Suadikiya Islamic School and spokesperson of heads of basic schools – Nyohini circuit, Ampomah K. Bismarck noted that they will only back down on the strike if the perpetrators are found and brought to book.

The attack on the head teacher was widely speculated to have been occasioned by the restriction on use of school facilities by the members of the Nyohini community.

But in a sharp contrast, the spokesperson for the heads of Nyohini circuit hinted that the apparent disregard for a memo on transfers of some teachers from the school could have triggered the incident, as the affected teachers stood aloof as the attack was being meted out to the head teacher.
