The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has described the nomination of members of the Electoral College towards the election of the members of council of state as illegal.

In a press statement release and read by the Upper East Regional Secretary of NDC, Donatus Akamugre, the party said the procedure being used by the Akufo-Addo led administration in the nomination of the electoral college members ahead of the council of state elections is in breach of the 1992 constitutional provisions and the laid down procedures.

“The subject matter has to do with the illegal attempt by the Akufo Addo led administration of an electoral college members towards the election of a member of the Council of State for the Upper East Region.”

Before the college is formed for the purpose of the election of the Council of State, Mr. Akamugre said the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region need to convene a meeting for deliberations.

“Let me emphatically make it clear that before an electoral college is formed to carry out the elections of members of the Council of State, the Metropolitan, Municipal or District Assemblies are required to convene a meeting of the full house of members of the assemblies to deliberate and nominate the members to form the electoral college for the election of the member to represent the region at the council of State.”

Mr. Akamugre therefore called on president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo to do the needful and desist from taking the people of the Upper East region for granted.
