School of nursing and midwifery to start at CK Tedam UTAS

The Vice Chancellor of C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Prof. Eric Magnus Wilmot has disclosed that plans are far advanced to commence science and medicine programmes that will reflect the core mandate of the University.

Delivery a speech after his investiture as the Vice Chancellor of C.K Tedam UTAS at the University premises in Navrongo, Prof. Wilmot revealed the school of Nursing and Midwifery is set to start this year.

“The school of nursing and midwifery and the school of medicine and dentistry will also start hopefully this year. As I speak, the curriculum for nursing and midwifery is being drafted. Hopefully by the end of this month February, the curriculum will be ready and we will submit to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. The medicine and dentistry curriculum is also being written but I must tell you, we have intentionally lobbied. We have sold the idea of the type of nursing and midwifery programme we want to run, to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and they are excited.”

He indicated that, the university is working to introduce more science related programmes such as the Center for Plant and Climate Sciences and the Center for Research and Education in Water Sanitation and Hygiene.

To be able to train skillfully employable graduates to meet the needs of industries, the institution has consulted the Irrigation Company Of Upper Region (ICOUR) to collaborate in managing the Center for Plant and Climate Sciences to bring a level of scientific thinking to the agricultural sector in the Region.

The investiture ceremony saw the Registrar, Prof. Dr. Vincent Anum Ankamah Lomotey also sworn into office. Their appointments were made by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Vice Chancellor in his speech was grateful to the president for reposing his trust on him to oversee the affairs of the University.

C K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences was carved out of the University for Development Studies(UDS) in 2020.

The University is located in Navrongo, the Kassena-Nankana Municipal in the Upper East Region of Ghana
