Tongo Rana re-elected to serve on Council of State

Delegates that participated in the Upper East Region Council of State election held at the Upper East House of Chiefs have elected the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tong-Raan Kugbilalsong Nanlebetang to represent the region on the Council of State.

Tong-Raan who served as a Council of State member under President Akufo-Addo’s first term, polled over 50 percent of the total votes cast on Friday, February 12, 2021. Per this victory, the paramount chief of the Talensi Traditional Area has been given a second opportunity to serve on the Council of State.

The results are as follows, Tong-Raan Mosore Kugbilalsong Nanlebetang polled 19 votes out of 30 valid votes cast. Akurugu Eric Aligiyelah had no vote, Yam Mort had no vote, Akamboe Ayirebasia polled 5 votes, and the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, Ditundini Adiali Thomas-More polled 6 votes.

Other aspirants of the contest

Tong-Raan Kugbilalsong Nanlebetang in a brief address promised to continue giving the president good counsel about the region and also put before him the developmental needs of the Upper East Region.

Meanwhile businessman and one of the aspirants, Yaw Mort has congratulated the re-elected Council of State member for the Upper East Region, saying the delegates sent a clear message and he respects that.

Mr. Mort called on Tong-Raan Kugbilalsong Nanlebetang to open his doors for suggestions from all corners of the region and lay the same before the president.

“I came in with a good intention; with new ideas and vision for the region. Being a member of the Council of State gives you some power to also lobby for projects for the region and communities. My interest was to grab as many opportunities for the region and the people especially the youth. From the results, I’m sure the delegates are saying it’s not yet my time. I respect that.”
