As serious lobbying has started across the country for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at the various assemblies, 13 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency of the Upper East Region have shown interest in contesting for the position of the Municipal Chief Executive slot for Bolgatanga.

One of such individuals, Agana Bawa Rashid, has disclose that, he is sure to bring a lasting solution to the security challenges in the Bolgatanga Municipality if given the nod as the MCE.

Counting on his experience as Assembly Member for Tindonmolgo Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Mr. Bawa told A1 Radio that “When I was an Assembly Man, I can tell you that people in Estates could not sleep because of security concerns. I had to form a watch dog committee and I was a leader myself. By 9:00pm we were on the streets of Estate; we would patrol Estates until 5 or 6am before we could go back to our various homes.

I am not a leader who wants to sit in the office in the air-condition. I am a leader who is prepared for my hands to be dirty. So if we have to mount community check points in every community we have to do it, I am not happy about the security situation in the Bolga Municipality.”

According to Mr. Bawa, he is more familiar with the challenges confronting residents of the Bolgatanga municipality and is confident his appointment as MCE will help improve the living conditions of the people in the area.
