The Transport Minister-Designate, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has said, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country is the reason the commencement of action towards the construction of an airport for the Upper East Region has delayed.
The Upper East Regional airport project has been an issue of contention following a brouhaha over the location of the project. Mr. Asiamah who said this while taking his turn to answer questions from the Appointment Committee of parliament announced that he had assurance from the minister-designate for Finance, that construction of the Upper East Regional airport will start before the year ends.
“This matter has been brought to my attention and I found out that we had some challenges because of the Covid-19 situation, but Minister for Finance has assured me that all things being equal, he will make sure that this year, he will find funding for the Upper East airport project. Honourable member, I know that is where you come from, and people will be happy that you asked this question. Be rest assured that, all things being equal, we will start the project this year.” He stated
