Upper East Regional Communication Team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alfred Awuni has opined that the upsurge in cases of robbery incidents in the region, shows that President Akufo-Addo has lost the fight against crime-related issues.

According to him, the security situation under President Akufo-Addo has worsened as compared to the erstwhile John Mahama administration.

Mr. Awuni who spoke on ‘Daybreak Upper East’ on A1 Radio added the situation has made residents and commuters now live-in fear.

Disappointed as he claimed, Mr. Awuni noted that he was expecting the President in his state of the nation address to outline some key factors that his government was doing to resolve crime-related issues in the country, “if not the Upper East Region alone”.

“What did the president say about security? I did not hear so much about that, I think that security is one of the vital areas the president needed to address. Because without our safety, businesses cannot thrive but he failed us on that length. I was thinking that as he was talking about the state of the nation, picking one key sector to the other, he would talk about security. It is worse under him. And I think that as a citizen, I am supposed to be secured and I did not hear anything on that.”

Touching on the provisions of vehicles to some security agencies by the President, Mr. Awuni stated that more needs to be done as some security areas in the region are still without proper logistics.

“Likewise, some communities are still without security posts and all calls for worry.” He added.
