The office of the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted claims circulating in the public domain that the Vice-President has another wife, called ‘Ramatu’.

The name Ramatu first appeared in public when the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin acknowledged dignitaries including the Second Lady(Samira Bawumia) as Ramatu Bawumia at the Swearing-In of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo as President for the second time at Parliament.

The name ‘Ramatu’ reappeared in parliament on 9th March 2021 during the State of the Nation Address.

However, a statement signed by the spokesperson at the office of the Vice-President, Gideon Boako and sighted by a1radioonline.com said, “…the Vice-President has never met or seen this purported Ramatu, let alone take her as a wife. She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-president for their own purposes”.

The statement continued to say that, “…for the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-President has only one wife, his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years even though his religion permits him to marry up to four wives.”

The office of the Vice-President has therefore asked the public to ignore what it describes as ‘propaganda and deliberate falsehood’ in circulation about his marital life.
