Sakote Chief intensifies fight against COVID-19

The Paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area, Naba Sigri Bewong has intensify the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by donating to 18 divisional queen mothers and sub-chiefs within his traditional area.

Speaking to the media, Naba Bewong stated that the gesture was in response to a request made to the government by the National House of Chiefs for support to paramount chiefs in the fight against the virus.

The paramount chief of the Sakote Traditional Area stated that the people of the area are complying with the president’s directive for a ban on the performance of funerals.

“When His Excellency the president banned funerals, so I had to summon all my divisional chiefs and informed them not to perform funerals. We are not saying we should not bury the dead but the number should not exceed 25 people in attendance. But old funerals are banned until further notice. So my people are complying.”

Naba Benwong thanked the government and the Nabdam district assembly for procuring the items for distribution in his traditional area.

He also called on the people of the area to avail themselves for the vaccination when the region rolls out the Covid-19 vaccine.

The items donated include Veronica Buckets, nose masks, liquid soap, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The Nabdam district health director, Baba Awuni said the district recorded 16 cases of COVID-19 cases with 1 death. Mr. Awuni urged the people of the district to continue practicing all the safety protocols to stem the spread of the virus.
