The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obiri Boahen has said that, it will be politically suicidal to condemn the proliferation of campaign posters around the country promoting Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the Allan Kyeremanteng’s candidatures.

Speaking on ‘DayBreak Upper East’ Programme on A1 Radio, Mr. Boahen said, “somebody in Bolga, Walewale, or somebody in Sunyani decides to put up posters of Bawumia, Allan Kyeremanteng or Obiri Boahen and that person says that, he is not a member of the NPP but he loves Nana Obiri Boahen, and wishes Nana Obiri Boahen become the General Secretary of the NPP and therefore he does that at his own expenses, can we hold that person responsible?”

His comments comes on the back of recent emergence of posters advertising the 2024 candidatures of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Trade minister, Allan Kyeremanteng.

This has left some section of the Ghanaian Public asking whether or not their action wouldn’t bring division in the NPP.

Though a statement signed by the spokesperson at the office of the Vice President on 24th March, 2021 stated categorically that, Dr. Bawumia has not given his consent to those posters and had therefore disassociated himself from such activities.

However, Mr. Boahen said, those behind these activities did so out of love they have for the NPP and its key members, therefore it will be politically suicidal to condemn their actions.
