Director of Legal Affairs in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)Abraham Amalba says, he nearly beat his colleague lawyer Frank Davies for attempting to incite him against a Judge during a court proceeding.

Lawyer Amalba who revealed this in an interview on Daybreak Upper East explained that , he was unable to appear before the Cape Coast High court because, he had committed to another High Court in Tema.

So he sent a letter to the presiding Judge requesting for new dates for the case.

The two lawyers, Frank Davies and Abraham Amalba are in court arguing the case of the dual citizenship of the Assin North MP, Joe Gyakye Quayson.

According to Mr.Amalba , when he appeared before the court in the next adjourned date, Frank Davies insisted that regardless of his letter sent to the Judge, he disrespected him the court. He argued that Mr. Amalba could have equally called him on his in ability to appear for the case.

“The previous week ,this matter was called and I wasn’t in court so I sent a letter telling the judge that I already committed to the High Court in Tema and so I wished that new dates are given.

So Frank Davies too was in court ,now
Frank Davies made comments in court trying to incite the judge against me, saying that ,I’ve shown disrespect to the court. What showed that I was in Tema court ? and that, that is a clear indication of a show of disrespect to the court .I also sought to set the records straight and I made it clear that ,it has never been my training to disrespect my superiors, the Judge is my superior. When has it ever been said that ,if you send a letter to court ,that amounts to disrespect?,rather when lawyers send letters to court ,asking for adjournment that rather show respect for the court .so for my senior ,Frank Davies to make those comments were in bad taste and I want to assure that I will never disrespect the court”.he said.

He added that ” And I thought that was okay ,that was the end of the matter because, he had his day when I wasn’t there and I also had my day to set the records straight .then he came back and still insisted that I’ve shown disrespect to him and the court ,why didn’t I call him?,I’m in Accra with him ,if I know I will not come, why didn’t I call him and is that not show of disrespect?”.

Mr. Abraham said,he tried explaining his reasons but Mr. Davies resisted it and insisted he was disrespectful and making all attempts to find trouble for him before the Judge.

“I couldn’t take it any longer so I told him I don’t eat from his house ,so if we go to the car park ,he should make similar comments so that was where tempers went overboard. The Judge instructed the police to send us out” he stated.

But the Presiding Judge was able to cool down the tempers and both parties apologized for their misconduct in court.
