Saboba Chief cautions against use of weapons in settling land disputes

In the Northern Region of Ghana, land disputes often erupt in farming communities during farming season as many farmers jostle to cultivate on fertile lands for better yields.

As the rains are about to set in, this phenomenon is likely to occur. But before it does, the paramount Chief of the Saboba Traditional Area in the Northern Region, Ubor Bowan John Mateer Sakojim IV has cautioned farmers in his traditional area not to resort to the use of weapons in settling such disputes if they erupt.

In his speech at this year’s annual convention of Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) in Saboba in Saturday April 3, Ubor Mater Sakojim IV said, “Sons and daughters of Kikpakpang, once more the ruins are setting in and very soon, our people will go back to their farms. Issues of ownership of farm lands are bound to arise. In all these agitations, I want to appeal to our people not to resort to the use of weapons in settling these issues. Let us resort to the use of dialogue and use due process of law to address our grievances.”

While congratulating the newly elected and sworn-in KOYA executives, the Paramount Chief also congratulated the outgone executives for their sterling service to the people of Kikpakpang and wished them well in their endeavours.

Ubor Mater Sakojim IV announced that in 2020, he used his position as the Paramount Chief of Saboba Traditional Area and also as a member of the Norther Regional House of Chiefs to lobby for elevation of 9 chiefs in the Saboba District to divisional status.

He disclosed, “I have received official communication that their certificates of elevation by the Regional House of Chiefs are ready for collection. All these steps are geared towards meeting the creteria for a Traditional Council of our own here in Saboba.

I am therefore once more appealing to our ministers and other political office holders to help chiefs and KOYA achieve this objective within a measurable time frame.”
