Paramount Chief of the Sakoti Traditional Area, Naba Sigri Bewong has expressed his concerns about major factors dragging the development of the Upper East Region.

The revered Chief in an interview on Daybreak Upper East at his residence in Sakoti, lamented lack of unity that has divided the region.

According to him, a resourceful area like the Upper East Region should not have lacked basic social amenities and infrastructure with over reliance on central government.

He holds the view that if leadership in the region had been united, several developments would have sprang up to meet the needs of residents.

Naba Sigri Bewong pontificated that, disunity cuts across in all leadership in the region, from chieftaincy, religious to political.

The former President of Upper East Regional House of Chiefs however, emphasised that the unnecessary change in political leadership was a major factor to the development predicament of the region.

” One of our major problems in this region is how we change our regonal ministers ,we’ve to check it. No Regional Minister lasts longer in office as compared to other regions ” he stated.

He makes the point that, there is no continuity in certain developments because, the regional ministers do not get enough time to front for the needed developments.

Between 2012 to 2016, unlike other regions, Upper East had changed four Regional Ministers in the erstwhile NDC government.

A similar situation has reoccurred under the first fours years of Nana Akufo-Addo where two ministers served from 2017 to 2020.
