The Upper East Regional Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), Yussif Bennin Duori has been installed as the chief of Jaana in the Sissala East Municipality of the Upper West region.

Mr. Bennin who earns the chieftaincy title, Kuoro Ndie Bennin Duori IX was installed at Jaana in a colorful event, attended by the chief of Tumu, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI, divisional and sub-chiefs, staff of the ISD, sons and daughters of the Jaana community.

Per the tradition of Jaana, Kuoro Ndie Bennin Duori IX was chosen as chief of the area in September 2020 pending his installation which took place on Saturday 10th, 2021 in the Jaana community.

Giving a speech shortly after being installed, the new chief of Jaana thanked the people of the area for the confidence reposed in him and called for collaboration to facilitate the needed development in the community.

While appealing for wise counsel from elders and people of Jaana community during his reign, Kuoro Ndie Bennin Duori IX outlined six key areas such as education, environment, road network, dam construction, peace, and unity that he seeks to achieve for the development of the community.

“Education remains the bedrock of development in every community and this regard, I intend to commit my time, energy, and other resources during my reign to the development of education in the Jaana kingdom. The education of girls will be given priority attention given the important role that women play.”

He further called for a concerted effort at ending the destruction of the environment in the community.

“I will also like to use this opportunity to appeal to the Member of Parliament of the Sissala East constituency and the Sissala East municipal assembly to facilitate the construction of a dam to promote dry season farming and rearing of domestic animals. One other developmental concern in the Jaana community is the poor road network. I will therefore want to appeal to the Sissala East municipal assembly and other Members of Parliament to work on our road for us.”

Kuoro Ndie Bennin Duori IX announced plans to initiate an annual homecoming activity to foster unity among the people and harness resources to alleviate poverty in the area. He used the occasion to thank the Sissala East MP, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku for facilitating the provision of electricity to the Jaana community.

The new chief who was not happy with the seemly unhealthy relationship between the Jaana community members and the Fulani community in the area, “appealed to the Fulani community to leave in harmony with the people of Jaana community by observing the rules and regulation and the customs of the area”.

While acknowledging the enormous contribution of the Tumu Kuoro, Richard Babini Kanton VI, and the police command in maintaining peace in the area, the Jaana Kuoro pledged to work closely with other individuals and institutions to help grow the community.
