Bolgatanga : Sanitation department appeals for more personnel to tackle sanitation challenges

As many communities in the country are battling with poor sanitation, the Bolgatanga Municipality is of no exception. The sanitation situation in Bolgatanga which was once adjudged as the cleanest city in the country leaves much to be desired lately.
The filthy regional capital has its gutters choked with refuse and spilling out while authorities sit unconcerned.

But acting Upper East Regional Director of the Environmental and Sanitation Department, Juventus Asanyuure in an interview with A1 Radio indicated that the department is working hard in addressing the sanitation challenges in the Upper East region especially in Bolgatanga Municipality.

Mr Asanyuure, lamented over the overwhelming situation saying his outfit lacks the required number of personnel to deal with the situation.

According to Mr. Asanyuure, the department for some time now has not received personnel to help address the pressing issue of sanitation in the region.

Speaking on the same issue, a Public Health Nurse, Gifty Atampugbire said poor sanitation is a contributory factor to the too many deaths recorded in the country.

She has therefore admonished the public to be responsible for managing waste in their surrounding since sanitation management is a shared responsibility.
