Saint Mary Immaculate Junior High School at Duotang in the Nandom Municipality of the Upper West Region is in dire need of infrastructure to enable effective teaching and learning.
The school currently does not have a staff common room and office space to keep official documents including teaching and learning materials, certificates of past students. As a result, official documents of the schools are kept in the bed room of the headteacher.
Meanwhile, the teachers have also used stalks to erect a structure which they use as their staff common room.
Speaking to A1 Radio’s Upper West Regional Correspondent Dennis Bebane, Headteacher of the school, Cletus Dabuo-Der bemoaned that the outgone headteacher was unable to handover some important documents to him because they could not be traced.
“Yes the headmaster I took over from was supposed to do official handing over to me but he could not do that because some official documents cannot be found and you cannot blame him. He kept them in his house because there was no office space at the school.
The former headmaster told me he wrote letters several letters to the Nandom Municipal Assembly for attention but we are yet to receive any response” Mr Dabuo-Der revealed.
Meanwhile, the Nandom Municipal Coordinating Director, Abaching Esther has said the assembly has not received such letters.
Checks from the education files of the assembly revealed that there was no letter from the school to the assembly.
The Saint Mary Immaculate Junior High School was established by the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, a Catholic Religious Congregation.
The objective of the Junior High School is to make education accessible and relevant to the people in the area and also ease the struggles children go through by trekking long distances for education.
Mary Immaculate JHS was adjudged the best BECE aggregate school in the Baselble Circuit in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 BECE.
