Tamne Dam to be operationalized soon, Garu DCE assures residents

The District Chief Executive for Garu in the Upper East region, Emmanuel Asore Avoka has hinted that the Tamne Irrigational Dam is close to completion and operationalization.

According to the DCE, who spoke in an interview on DayBreak Upper East show on A1 Radio on April 20, 2021 they are currently resettling about 32 houses that were affected because of the construction of the dam, and the houses will be completed by the end of April for the over 200 inhabitants to move in.

It would be recalled that former President John Dramani Mahama cut sod for the construction of the Tamne Dam on 11th July 2016.

The project when completed is expected to create over 5,000 jobs.

Mr Avoka stated that residents of the area are excited about the project because it will have a huge impact on their lives.

Touching on the accidents that claimed many lives of people of Garu on the Kumasi-Buipe road, Mr Avoka said measures have been put in place by the assembly to avert the reoccurrence of such a situation which has reduced accidents involving Garu buses.
