Water crisis hits Kukuo in Tamale South

Residents of the Tamale Metropolis have expressed worry over the scarcity of water in the Tamale Municipality with no alternative source of water supply available.

The only dam serving residents of Kukuo electoral area and its environs in the Tamale Metropolis have dried up making life difficult and unbearable.

Residents say the situation is negatively affecting their daily activities and making businesses redundant and the only available water source is not safe for drinking. 

They say if the water problem persists within the electoral area, it will bring unbearable hardships to them and there is the need for urgent attention by authorities to address the challenge.

A resident who spoke to A1 News said they are not happy about the increasing cost of water and they are being compelled to buy water from tricycle operators on daily basis.

The Assemblyman of Kukuo electoral area, Mohammed Mutala Mahamudu, in an interview with A1 News said, since time immemorial Kukuo has been associated with water problems. 

He said they get water during the rainy season but afterward, it becomes a period of water scarcity in their electoral area.

Mr Mahamudu said he has complained severally to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Tamale Metro about the water situation but they paid no attention to their plight. 

He stated that, because there is no sufficient water supply in the electoral area trees and animals are dying due to the water scarcity. 

Mr. Mahamudu said that they depend on a dam in the area as the only source of water but it is now empty, and they are compelled to buy water which costs them a lot of money.

He appealed to Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to help resolve the water situation in the electoral area to ease the suffering of the people.

He also called on the residents of the electoral area to be patient as he makes efforts in finding a lasting solution to the water scarcity in the electoral area.
