At the close of nominations on Tuesday May 4, 2021 for national and regional elections of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), five aspirants had filed to contest for four regional positions in the Upper East Region.

Chairperson of the Regional GJC Elections Committee, Hannah Zemp-Tapang at the close of nominations confirmed to A1Radioonline.com that three positions have only one candidate each submitting their nomination forms to contest.

The positions and their aspirants are; Vice Chairperson, Fatima Anafo-Astanga of the Ghana News Agency, Regional Secretary, Albert Sore of Multimedia and Treasurer, Joshua Asaah of A1 Radio.

Article 48 (d) i) of the GJA’s 2004 constitution states: “Where at the close of nominations only one candidate stands nominated, that candidate shall be declared elected by the Elections Committee.”

Per this constitutional provision, the aforementioned candidates are likely going to be on their way to becoming regional executives of the GJA in the Upper East Region.

Meanwhile, there will however be a keen contest between the General Manager of A1 Radio, William Nlanjerbor Jalulah and Isaac Asare of GBC URA Radio. Both have filed to contest for the regional chairmanship position.
