The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers-Ghana (COPEC) has projected an additional increment of fuel prices in the coming days as changes in global fuel prices could significantly change the current fuel prices.

Speaking in an interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, a Research and Monitoring Officer at COPEC, Sampson Addae stated that the current 12% increment of the fuel price is as a result of the pollution and sanitation tax, as well as essences capacity tax that was introduced by the government.

Mr Addae said the hikes in current petroleum prices are as a result of the impact of Covid-19 which has led to reduced production of petroleum products across the world because people movement have been restricted so demand for petroleum product also reduced which has led to shortages.

Mr. Addae noted that there is a possible further increment of petroleum products because there are other factors that can trigger the fuel prices to go up which include the global price change.

He, therefore, called on the government to take pragmatic measures to address the situation else Ghanaians could pay more for fuel going forward.
