Chief and People of Chaang in the Nandowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region have appealed to government to grant the community self- initiative health facility accreditation to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The health facility

The Health Facility was built by the community members through contributions last two years and was adopted by the Ghana Health Service a year later.

However, residents are worried that the only health facility in the area is yet to be approved by the National Health Insurance Scheme.

They said the accreditation of the facility on the scheme is crucial because it will enable them to access free health care.

A resident Bernard Lug-naa who spoke on behalf of the Chief said as it is very difficult for them to access basic health care because they cannot pay for the services that are being rendered at the facility.

Mr Lug-naa bemoaned the tussles residents have to go through to far distance such Kaleo or Sombo to access health care.

He appealed to the Nandowli-Kaleo District Health Directorate to come to their aid by helping them to get NHIS accreditation for the facility to better serve their needs.

All attempts by A1 News to reach the Assembly Member of the electoral area to speak about steps being taken to get the residents’ concerns addressed prove futile.

Residents also raised concerns about the lack of drugs and other health logistics at the facility.
